In 1929, George Macy founded The Limited Editions Club with a singular mission: to transform classic literature into high art. While most publishers focused on the text inside, Macy often treated the physical object of the book as a canvas. His most ambitious project arrived in 1946 with a seven volume edition of Edward Gibbon's The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
