Moderate drinking offers no net health benefits
Decades of advice suggesting that a daily glass of wine protects the heart are being overturned by data showing risk begins at just one drink.
For years, medical guidance suggested that moderate alcohol consumption might actually protect the heart. However, a comprehensive federal review of alcohol use and mortality has found no net protective health effect from drinking, even at low levels. While older studies often struggled to separate the effects of alcohol from a person's income or education, newer analysis shows that health risks begin to rise at just one drink per day.
