Valerie Solanas shot Andy Warhol over a lost play
Before she became a symbol of radical feminism, Valerie Solanas attempted to assassinate the father of Pop art because he misplaced her script.
In 1968, the radical feminist writer Valerie Solanas walked into Andy Warhol's studio, known as the Factory, and shot him. While Solanas is often remembered for her SCUM Manifesto, a 1967 document that argued for the biological inferiority of men, her immediate motive for the attempted murder was far more personal. She was convinced that Warhol was conspiring to steal or suppress her creative work.
