Ancient Celtic elites were buried with two wheeled wagons

Iron Age warriors in central Germany were laid to rest with luxury goods and vehicles to signal their high social status.

In the middle of the first millennium B.C.E., a high ranking Celtic warrior was buried in what is now Hessen, Germany, surrounded by symbols of immense wealth. The grave contained solid gold rings for the man's neck and arms, weapons such as spearheads, and a rare two wheeled wagon. This practice of burying elite individuals with their vehicles was a hallmark of the La Tene culture, which thrived across Central and Western Europe between 450 and 50 B.C.E.
