King Hammurabi's ancient Babylonian code, inscribed on a stele 3,800 years ago, established one of the first legal systems, famously introducing 'an eye for an eye' justice.
Around 3,800 years ago, King Hammurabi of Babylon etched one of the world's first legal systems onto a seven-foot-tall stone slab. This Code of Hammurabi, written in Akkadian cuneiform, contained 282 laws covering everything from trade to family disputes.
