Archaeologists at the Bury site near Paris recently uncovered a genetic ghost story. Around 3200 BC, a thriving community of early farmers suddenly suffered a catastrophic collapse, marked by a spike in deaths among the young. Within a few generations, these people were gone, replaced by a new group with no genetic connection to the original inhabitants.
