Following the total destruction of the old capital by invaders, King Taksin was crowned in 1768 and established Thonburi as a new seat of power to unify a fractured Thailand.

After the fall of the Ayutthaya Kingdom to Burmese invaders, a charismatic leader named Taksin rose to reclaim Thai independence. On December 28, 1768, he was crowned King of the new Thonburi Kingdom, strategically choosing a coastal site for his capital to facilitate trade and defense.
