Constantine VIII holds a strange record in Roman history. Having been crowned co-emperor as a child in 962, he lived in the shadow of his brother, Basil the Bulgar-Slayer, for over six decades. He finally became the sole ruler in 1025 at the age of 65, after 63 years of waiting.
