Established during the height of the Yugoslav Wars in 1991, the Croatian Community of Herzeg-Bosnia was formed to protect Croat interests during the disintegration of the regional political landscape.
On November 18, 1991, Croatian leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina established the Croatian Community of Herzeg-Bosnia as an autonomous political and territorial unit. Created during a period of intense instability, the entity was intended to organize the defense and administration of Croat-populated areas as the central government in Sarajevo struggled to maintain control.
