In 1601, the Ottoman fortress of Nagykanizsa was surrounded by a massive Habsburg force of 80,000 soldiers. Inside, Tiryaki Hasan Pasha had only 9,000 men and dwindling supplies. To deceive the enemy, he ordered festive music to play and staged fake celebrations to hide the hunger of his troops.
