On November 11, 1811, Cartagena de Indias took a bold step by signing its Act of Independence, officially severing all ties with the Spanish Crown. Unlike earlier declarations that sought only partial autonomy, Cartagena demanded total sovereignty, making it the first city in the United Provinces of New Granada to do so.
