Green roofs cool cities and cut energy bills

Green roofs naturally cool buildings and urban areas, significantly reducing energy costs and combating the sweltering heat of crowded cities by turning rooftops into green oases.

Green roofs, which cover building tops with soil and plants, naturally insulate structures and combat urban heat islands. These vegetated surfaces reduce the need for air conditioning by absorbing heat and providing shade, keeping buildings much cooler. For example, a green roof can stay below 85 degrees Fahrenheit in summer, while a conventional black roof might exceed 150 degrees. This significantly lowers energy costs, with studies showing potential cooling energy reductions of 15 to 25 percent. Beyond cooling, green roofs extend roof lifespans and blend nature with city life.
