Djembe drums weave complex polyrhythms

The djembe, a goblet-shaped drum from West Africa, creates intricate polyrhythms by layering distinct bass, tone, and slap sounds. Originating with the Mandinka people as early as the 12th century, this hand-struck drum is central to traditional ensembles.
