A Japanese sandglass takes one year to empty

In the town of Nima, Japan, time is measured by a massive glass vessel known as the Sandglass. Standing over five meters tall, it is the largest hourglass ever constructed. While a standard kitchen timer might track three minutes, this device is engineered to measure exactly one year. It contains one ton of microscopic sand grains, which begin their descent at the stroke of midnight every New Year's Eve.
