Before it became a global automotive giant, Kia was founded in 1944 as Kyungsung Precision Industry. The founder, Kim Chul-ho, returned to his home country from Japan with a fortune worth approximately 200 billion won in modern value and a singular ambition to build his own cars. However, he recognized that he could not manufacture a complex four-wheeled vehicle overnight.
