Venture-backed firms make up eighty percent of the KOSDAQ

While often compared to the Nasdaq, South Korea's secondary stock market is almost entirely defined by companies that started as venture-backed startups.

The KOSDAQ market functions as the primary engine for South Korea's innovation economy, with venture-backed companies accounting for 79.5 percent of all listed entities. As of April 2024, 1,274 out of the 1,603 companies on the exchange share this venture history, representing a massive 516 trillion won in total market capitalization.
