American independence was officially finalized at the Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles is widely remembered as the seat of French absolute monarchy, but it also served as the legal birthplace of American sovereignty. While the Revolutionary War effectively ended with the British surrender at Yorktown, the conflict was not formally resolved until the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783. This historic agreement, which officially recognized the United States as an independent nation, was finalized and beseeched within the royal grounds of Versailles.
