Japan extradited its own citizen for digital piracy
A 37 year old man became the first Japanese national handed over to South Korea after his massive manga website cost creators hundreds of billions of won.
International law rarely sees a nation surrender its own citizen to another country for prosecution. In a landmark application of a 2002 treaty, Japanese authorities extradited a 37 year old man who had renounced his original nationality to become a Japanese citizen. This move marked the first time a Japanese national was ever handed over to South Korea since the agreement was signed over two decades ago.
