The Sagrada Família is now the tallest church on Earth
After 144 years of construction, the addition of a five-story cross to its central tower has pushed the cathedral to a record-breaking height.
For over a century, the Sagrada Família in Barcelona was defined by its status as an unfinished masterpiece. That changed with the installation of a massive white cross atop its tallest tower, a symbolic milestone that finally realized the vertical scale envisioned by architect Antoni Gaudí. Standing at 566 feet, the cathedral has officially surpassed all other churches to become the tallest in the world.
