Nine hundred deep sea sensors monitor the collapsing Atlantic current
A massive network of underwater instruments has spent a decade tracking the physical and biological health of the world's most critical ocean systems.
The Ocean Observatories Initiative maintains a vast network of more than 900 instruments submerged across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. These sensors act as a high tech nervous system for the planet, recording constant data on the physical, chemical, and biological conditions of the deep sea. For the past decade, this infrastructure has provided a rare, continuous look at how the oceans are shifting in response to global changes.
