While generative AI saves the average worker ninety minutes per week, those extra hours often vanish into administrative tasks rather than generating more output.

The promise of artificial intelligence is often framed as a massive leap in efficiency, yet early data suggests that saving time does not automatically mean getting more done. A study by the Bank of Korea found that employees using generative AI reduced their average weekly workload by about 3.8 percent, which translates to roughly 1.5 hours of saved time every week. However, this reclaimed time did not result in a measurable increase in overall productivity during the first three years of adoption.
