France continued using the guillotine for executions until 1977, a surprisingly recent date considering the world had color TV and Star Wars.
Believe it or not, France used the guillotine for executions as recently as 1977, the same year Star Wars first hit theaters! Hamida Djandoubi was the last person executed by guillotine for torture and murder. This means people were watching sci-fi blockbusters while France still carried out beheadings.
