The universe is expanding faster than physics can explain
Deep-space measurements have hit a wall where our most precise calculations of the cosmos's growth no longer match the reality seen through our telescopes.
For decades, astronomers believed that as our tools improved, the conflicting measurements of the universe's expansion would eventually align. Instead, the opposite happened. Using the Hubble Space Telescope, the H0 Distance Network Collaboration recently measured the expansion rate at 73.5 kilometers per second per megaparsec with a tiny one percent margin of error.
