NASA tracks thousands of space rocks that pass millions of miles from Earth
NASA monitors tens of thousands of near-Earth objects, including small asteroids like 2025 GL, to map their orbital trajectories and ensure planetary safety years in advance.
NASA's Near-Earth Object program currently tracks over 28,000 space rocks to ensure they pose no threat to our planet. For example, asteroid 2025 GL is projected to pass within 2.33 million miles of Earth. While this sounds like a massive distance, it is considered a close approach in astronomical terms, even though it is nearly ten times further away than the Moon.
