An ancient Irish tradition allows women to propose to men every February 29

Every four years, a unique Irish tradition known as Bachelor's Day flips the script on conventional romance by empowering women to take the lead and propose to their partners on February 29.

This leap year custom dates back to 5th-century Ireland, when Saint Brigid of Kildare reportedly complained to Saint Patrick that women had to wait too long for marriage proposals. Patrick eventually designated the extra day in February as the time women could take initiative.
