Minnesota State Fair artists must submit seed legend cards

The Minnesota State Fair is home to a highly specific form of agricultural mosaic known as seed art. Participants create intricate tableaux, ranging from celebrity portraits to recreations of famous paintings, using only the grains and seeds cultivated within the state. Because the materials can be difficult to distinguish once glued into place, the fair requires every artist to submit a legend card that identifies each specific crop used in the piece.
