Every October 8, Peru honors Admiral Miguel Grau, the 'Knight of the Seas,' whose chivalry and sacrifice during the 1879 Battle of Angamos made him a permanent national icon.

During the War of the Pacific in 1879, Admiral Miguel Grau commanded the ironclad Huáscar against a much larger Chilean fleet. Despite being outmatched, Grau led a daring campaign for months before finally falling in battle on October 8.
