Born on this day in 1978, biotechnologist Yi So-yeon made history as the first South Korean to travel into space, conducting vital experiments during her stay at the International Space Station.
Yi So-yeon was born in Gwangju in 1978 and grew up to become a brilliant biotechnologist before making history in 2008. Selected from over 36,000 applicants, she spent eleven days aboard the International Space Station, where she conducted eighteen scientific experiments.
