Greenery Day, or Midori no Hi, is a Japanese national holiday dedicated to appreciating nature and being grateful for its blessings. Originally held on April 29th to mark the birthday of Emperor Showa, who was a passionate biological researcher, the holiday was moved to May 4th in 2007. It serves as a centerpiece of Golden Week, one of Japan's busiest vacation periods.
