Military aviation reached a new milestone in 1912 when Italian forces deployed massive P-class airships to scout enemy positions during the conflict over modern-day Libya.

During the Italo-Turkish War in 1912, Italy became the first nation to use dirigibles, or airships, for military reconnaissance. Two airships, the P-2 and P-3, flew over Turkish lines near Tripoli to gather intelligence. This marked a significant departure from traditional ground-based scouting and changed how commanders viewed the battlefield.
