Massive offshore terminals allow supertankers to load millions of barrels in a day
Offshore terminals like Kharg Island use massive sea berths and deep-sea pipelines to load millions of barrels of oil onto supertankers, even during intense ocean swells.
Massive offshore terminals utilize 18 sea berths extending 15 kilometers into the ocean to process 90 percent of regional oil exports. These steel platforms are engineered to resist saline corrosion and can load Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) in just 24 hours. Pipelines spanning 50 kilometers transport the oil from onshore fields directly to the ships.
