Elephants hear with their feet

Elephants communicate across vast distances, up to 6 miles, using infrasonic calls – sounds too low-pitched for humans to hear. Remarkably, they detect these messages not with their ears, but through their feet! Seismic vibrations travel through the ground, sensed by the sensitive skin on their feet and trunks, then relayed through their bones to their inner ear. This explains why an elephant might freeze and lift a leg; they're "listening" to distant messages.
