The world's largest volcano is actually hidden under the Pacific Ocean

Tamu Massif is a colossal shield volcano submerged deep within the Pacific Ocean that rivals the size of the British Isles and ranks among the largest volcanic structures in our solar system.

Located roughly 1,000 miles east of Japan, Tamu Massif covers an incredible 120,000 square miles of the ocean floor. This massive shield volcano is comparable in size to the state of New Mexico or the British Isles. While its peak remains about 6,500 feet below the surface, its base sits in trenches four miles deep.
