The first volcano found beyond Earth was caught erupting 47 years ago

Optical navigation engineer Linda Morabito discovered the massive plume rising 190 miles above Io's surface while processing images from the Voyager 1 mission. This groundbreaking observation proved that Earth was not the only geologically active world in our solar system.
