Astronomers found a record-breaking cosmic laser 8 billion light-years from Earth

The MeerKAT radio telescope detected a powerful megamaser, a natural cosmic laser emitted by hydroxyl molecules, originating from a massive galactic collision five billion light-years away.

This record-breaking radio signal, known as a megamaser, is approximately one thousand billion times brighter than the Sun. It was created when two galaxies collided, causing gas to become extremely dense and stimulating the emission of coherent light.
