Updated flooding models reveal higher risks for coastal cities worldwide
Advanced satellite mapping techniques suggest that global coastal communities face a significantly higher risk of chronic flooding by 2050 than previously estimated by traditional land elevation data.
New topographic models indicate that many coastal areas are much closer to sea level than earlier radar data suggested. These updated assessments estimate that land currently home to 300 million people could fall below the elevation of an average annual flood within the next thirty years.
