NASA is now mapping the invisible hydrogen envelope that surrounds Earth

Earth is wrapped in a massive, glowing cloud of hydrogen called the geocorona that extends far beyond the moon, and NASA is finally mapping its mysterious structure.

A vast cloud of hydrogen atoms known as the geocorona forms the outermost layer of our atmosphere, stretching over 390,000 miles into space. NASA is currently using the GLIDE mission to map this invisible envelope in unprecedented detail by capturing ultraviolet light.
