While most of the world’s ice is rapidly retreating, the Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina remains a stunning exception by maintaining a state of equilibrium that allows it to advance across Lake Argentino.

The Perito Moreno Glacier stands out as a geological marvel because it is one of the few glaciers on Earth that is not currently shrinking. Located in Los Glaciares National Park, this massive ice formation spans 121 square miles and remains in a state of dynamic equilibrium. This means it gains enough mass from mountain snowfall to offset the ice lost through melting and calving.
