Glaciers hold most of Earth's freshwater
Glaciers store nearly 70 percent of Earth's freshwater, acting as critical frozen reservoirs that influence global water availability and climate, but are now threatened by warming temperatures.
Glaciers are Earth's largest freshwater reservoir, storing about 69 percent of the planet's freshwater supply. While 97 percent of all water is saltwater, the remaining 3 percent freshwater is mostly locked in these massive ice formations. The Antarctic Ice Sheet alone contains roughly 60 percent of the world's freshwater.
