Gonggong is a rosy dwarf planet
The dwarf planet Gonggong, one of the reddest objects in our solar system, shines dimly with a rosy hue, revealing clues about early planetary formation.
Beyond Neptune, the dwarf planet Gonggong, originally 2007 OR10, stands out for its striking rosy-red color. This tint comes from tholins, organic compounds formed by solar radiation on icy materials rich in methane. Reflecting only about 10 percent of sunlight, Gonggong appears dim despite its substantial size, estimated at 1,230 kilometers in diameter.
