Escape velocity: the key to leaving Earth

Escape velocity is the minimum speed rockets need to break free from Earth's gravitational pull, making all space travel and exploration possible.

To truly escape Earth's gravity, rockets must hit a specific speed called escape velocity. For us, that's about 11.2 kilometers per second (25,000 mph) at sea level. Without reaching this threshold, objects simply fall back to Earth, making space exploration impossible.
