Martin Heidegger took his mentor Edmund Husserl's philosophical method, phenomenology, and completely reshaped it. Husserl, the "father of phenomenology," focused on describing conscious experience by "bracketing" assumptions about the world. Heidegger, who studied under and succeeded Husserl, adopted this approach but shifted its focus.
