The Amazon rainforest does not produce 20% of Earth's oxygen
The Amazon produces only 6% of Earth's oxygen; oceans, through phytoplankton, are Earth's primary oxygen producers, while the Amazon's true value is carbon storage and biodiversity.
Contrary to popular belief, the Amazon rainforest produces only about 6% of Earth's oxygen, not 20%. While it generates vast amounts of oxygen through photosynthesis, the rainforest's own decomposition and respiration consume nearly all of it, resulting in minimal net oxygen contribution.
