Botswana's Okavango Delta undergoes an incredible seasonal change, turning the arid Kalahari Desert into a vibrant inland wetland. This unique phenomenon occurs because floodwaters from Angolan rains, which fall between November and March, travel slowly across flat terrain, arriving in the delta from June to October. Spreading over 15,000 square kilometers, these floods create a rich mosaic of channels and islands.
