Believe it or not, email was invented in 1971, a full two decades before the World Wide Web emerged in 1991! Ray Tomlinson sent the very first email between two computers, famously choosing the @ symbol to separate usernames from computer names. He couldn't recall the exact message, but it was likely a simple test like "QWERTYUIOP."
