Divers have jumped from Mostar Bridge for 460 years

Since its completion in 1566, the Stari Most, or Old Bridge, in Mostar has served as a stage for one of the world's most enduring diving traditions. Designed by Mimar Hayrettin, a student of the legendary Ottoman architect Sinan, the bridge arches 24 meters above the emerald Neretva River. For over four and a half centuries, young men have tested their courage by leaping from the stone parapet, a feat so iconic it was recorded by the famous traveler Evliya Celebi in his 17th-century journals.
