Traditional psychiatry often treats attention deficit hyperactivity disorder as a distinct biological category, assuming the brains of those with the condition are fundamentally different from those without it. However, neurological mapping of over 7,000 children suggests that attention is actually a continuous spectrum. The brain networks responsible for inhibitory control, the ability to tune out distractions while focusing on a task, operate identically across all children, whether or not they have a clinical diagnosis.
