The HPV vaccine has eliminated cervical cancer deaths in young women
In a historic medical milestone, England recorded zero cervical cancer deaths among women aged 20 to 24 over a recent five-year period.
A single vaccine has proven capable of nearly eliminating a specific type of cancer. Between 2020 and 2024, England recorded zero deaths from cervical cancer among women in their early twenties. This achievement follows the 2008 introduction of a national immunization program targeting the human papillomavirus, or HPV, which is responsible for 99 percent of all cervical cancer cases.
