In June 2026, a black bear in Fukushima City demonstrated an unexpected level of dexterity after becoming trapped inside a local business. The animal had initially caused a panic by wandering through a residential neighborhood and a steel plant, where it injured four people, including a worker in his 20s and another in his 60s. Security footage captured the bear chasing employees before it eventually retreated into a building.
