A tech reporter became South Korea's first digital prime minister
Han Sung-sook rose from a junior journalist at a computer magazine to lead the nation's largest internet portal before being tapped for the country's second-highest office.
Han Sung-sook began her career in the early 1990s as a reporter for Mincom, a specialized computer magazine. At a time when the internet was still a niche curiosity, she was documenting the very technologies she would later use to transform the South Korean economy. Her transition from observing the digital revolution to leading it began when she joined the founding team of the search portal Empas in 1997, where she launched the country's first open search service.
